True & Co.’s new mobile retail unit, known as the ‘Try-on Truck‘ (technically a trailer pulled by a truck), left for San Francisco yesterday.  The SF based lingerie company will be taking it on tour through California in January and February, followed by many other stops across the US later this year.  The project was a collaboration between Dustin Stephens (MOA) and Dan Spiegel of Spiegel Aihara Workshop.  The Try-on Truck was completed on an aggressive timeline (a little over five months from conception), thanks in large part to a very fast build by the fabricator–Denver based Popshopolis.  After working with them on this project, they have our full endorsement.  The Try-on Truck project is a 24ft long box with one fully operable door panel facade that opens to create additional pop-out spaces and another all-glass/operable curtain facade.  The space is pretty straight-forward containing a primary center retail space and cabinet surrounded by four fitting rooms and small seating/counter spaces.  The unit is self-contained, operating LED lighting, A/V equipment, heating, and ventilation off a sound isolated quiet generator.

Details are still being wrapped up when it arrives in SF and then the Try-on Truck will begin it’s tour on January 14th at the Proxy event space in San Francisco.  There are some pretty interesting locations booked and many more being finalized.  Dan and Dustin are scheduled to give a quick talk on the project at a special stop at IDEO’s offices in Palo Alto the evening of January 25th…  More details to follow.  Also, check back soon as we get proper photographs taken of the Try-on Truck in action.  Thanks to Grant at Popshopolis for sending over this one yesterday just before it hit the road.

>HERE< is the link to True & Co.’s webpage where the tour schedule can be found and fitting appointments can be booked.  The locations, scheduling, and infrastructure for the tour are a work in progress that will be getting developed and updated.  Please check it out if you can.
