Nestled into the rugged topography of the Arizona desert in Yavapai County, this modern residence was designed for a retired couple with a focus on long-term accessibility and family connection. The home is crafted to honor its environment and reflect the natural high desert landscape. Its angular massing mimics the jagged silhouette of the surrounding mountains, while a primary skin of weathered Corten steel echoes the iron-rich hues of the local red earth, allowing the structure to disappear into the landscape.
The home’s interior is organized around this landscape, utilizing floor-to-ceiling glazing to create constant visual connections to the mountain and valley views. The main level provides a seamless, barrier-free environment where the primary suite and an expansive open-concept living, dining, and kitchen area reside on a single floor. This layout ensures the owners can enjoy effortless daily living while maintaining a direct, physical connection to the large outdoor terrace and a private central courtyard.
Carved into the natural hillside, the lower level functions as a secluded area for visiting children and grandchildren. This volume houses a secondary guest suite and a flexible office that easily converts into a bedroom, offering privacy and natural thermal cooling. By blending industrial materials with a soft, earth-toned interior palette, the home stands as a serene desert sanctuary—a place where multi-generational gatherings unfold against the backdrop of the timeless Arizona horizon.
